Book Review: Shutter by Courtney Alameda

Shutter

A teenaged student at an academy for monster hunters battles a new kind of monster to survive while she challenges beliefs about herself, her past, and a forbidden romance.

Favorites:

  • The lore is captivating and woven into the plot incredibly well.
  • I love the voice and found the main character interesting, relatable, and sympathetic. Her backstory is captivating.
  • The forbidden romance between Michelina and Ryder is appropriately angsty, and their draw to each other feels genuine and well-developed.

Least Favorites:

  • It may be because I’m an adult, but I feel like the threads that foreshadowed who the villains really were gave it away. I don’t feel like it took away from the story for me, though.
