Book Review: Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger

  • The lore and magic system are incredible. I especially liked the stories that Ellie recalls about her Six-Great. They felt reminiscent of oral histories to me, but I’m not sure if I interpreted that correctly.
  • I LOVED the world building in this book and felt connected to it. The onslaught of repetitive, foreign monsters was a particularly poignant and interesting aspect in my opinion.
  • The allegorical details that represented oppression of the environment and native people’s was thought-provoking and well-incorpirated into the story.

Least Favorites

  • Some of the dialogue felt strange to me. Specifically, a few conversations felt dark one moment and light the next. Also, Jay didn’t seem to be as familiar with Ellie as I’d expect long time friends to be.
